Dioman
Passionate about art since his teenage years, Dioman is a self-taught artist who grew up in the neighborhoods of Dakar. As a student, he spent most of his time at the “Car rapide” studio in the Ouakam neighborhood with his two older brothers, artists Sadio and Tampidaro. It was Tampidaro who finally gave him a canvas and painting supplies so he could start painting. In 2018, his meeting with ceramic artist Mauro Petroni, founder of the Dakar cultural event Partcours, and his first exhibition in the “Deuxième salon des jungles urbaines” launched his professional career.
His works convey the positive energies of the colors of life. Optimistic by nature and with a touch of madness, he advocates “begué” (joy of life in Wolof), despite the obstacles one may encounter. He draws his inspiration from a childhood in Dakar filled with colors and flavors. Everything is movement and harmony in his eyes: in urban Dakar, with its streets scented with touba coffee, colorful and bustling with fast buses and gerté (peanut) sellers, as well as in nature, where he recharges his batteries. A light bulb is present in each of his paintings, representing light and positive energy.
