Habib Sembène (Sakku)
Habib Sembène is a Senegalese multidisciplinary artist whose practice combines visual arts, textiles, performance, and design. Self-taught, since 2008 he has developed a unique approach to leather, which he considers a medium that carries memory, symbolism, and contemporary narratives.
His career has led him to collaborate with several figures in the Senegalese artistic and cultural scene and to participate in research projects, residencies, and group exhibitions, particularly in connection with the Laboratoire Agit'Art in Dakar.
Based in Rufisque since 2018, his work is rooted in the territory and civic dynamics, questioning collective intelligence and environmental responsibility. His approach is based on the Wolof concept of “Sakku,” a quest for fulfillment founded on knowledge, know-how, and transmission, which he also extends through his eponymous fashion brand.
