Modou Gueye
Modou Gueye, textile artist and costume designer, is originally from Saint-Louis, Senegal, a city rich in history and cultural heritage.
Modou draws inspiration from his family heritage, where sewing is a tradition.
Introduced to the art of clothing design by his father at a young age, he developed an early passion for embroidery. Each of his creations features meticulous embroidery work, offering a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles.
Inspired by the country's rich textile tradition, which experienced its golden age with the creation of the Thiès tapestry factory in the 1960s, Modou decided to go beyond clothing design. He evolved towards embroidered canvases through which he focuses on artistic exploration, looking back at the past to highlight Senegalese heritage and art. His goal is to inspire a passion for creativity and artistic expression.
Currently, his work revolves around three main pillars: research through embroidered canvases, his work with the clothing brand “Yeug Design” founded by the artist in 2023, and his activity as a costume designer, which allows him to collaborate with other artists and projects.
