Ibou Gningue

Ibou Gningue, born in 1982 in Dakar, is a visual artist and art teacher.

He graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar in 2005. Passionate about drawing from a young age, he won several awards even before beginning his artistic training. Of Lebou origin, Ibou draws inspiration from social and cultural scenes and currently focuses on the traditional costumes worn by Lebou women for the Goumbé and Ndawrabine dances. He has exhibited his work at numerous events in Africa and Europe, notably at the Dak'art Biennale. His notable exhibitions include those at the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco, the Antenna Gallery in Dakar, the Arté Gallery, the Théodore Monod Museum in Dakar, and the CRD in Saint-Louis.

He was also involved in the project “Three Artists, Three Projects” organized by the American Cultural Center in Dakar. In recognition of his work, he has received several awards, including the Special Jury Prize from the Cuomo Foundation in Monaco and first prize in a drawing competition entitled Our Families on the World, sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund.

Convinced of his artistic approach, he continues to live and work in Dakar.
