JULRUT is a duo of visual artists. Their work is nourished by intercultural exchanges, merging textiles and pictorial vibrations to create a unique universe and paving the way for a deeper exploration of sharing in creation.

They play on the superimposition of materials and color contrasts. Their shared vision is to create art that tells stories, transcends cultural boundaries, and raises awareness of issues such as ecology, emotions, and the revival of artisanal traditions. At this crossroads, they explore materials and techniques to pass on their expertise. This creative dialogue, where the blending of textiles and painting becomes a universal language. universal language.

Souleymane Dramé Ndoye

-I don't speak, I paint-

Born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, in 1979, Souleymane Dramé Ndoye, alias “JUL,” is a self-taught artist with a passion for drawing. In 2014, he devoted himself to painting and joined the Village des Arts in Dakar, where he set up his studio in 2021. His painting, marked by an explosion of colors, explores emotions, everyday African life, and global environmental issues.

Ruth Illa

Ruth Illa, a Spanish artist who moved to Grand-Bassam, Ivory Coast, in 2021, explores crochet and embroidery using recycled materials. Inspired by her Spanish heritage, yet punctuated by the African values passed down by her grandmother LOLA, who lived for many years in Equatorial Guinea, she creates works that are both identity-based and ecological. Her work weaves together stories of belonging and commitment, combining traditional techniques with a constant search for renewal.

Sarita Marchesi

(stage name Madame Diop)

An activist for international solidarity, she describes her goal as follows: "My mission in life is to create dialogue between different countries, cultures, and religions through genuine mutual understanding. Artistic practice flows naturally from this learning process. After graduating in art history from the prestigious University of Leiden, she went on to study at the Amsterdam School of Dramatic Arts. She began her career as an actress at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, where she received a special mention in the new projects section. She works between her native Italy, the Netherlands, her second adopted country, Egypt, and Senegal. Since 1986, she has run a cultural foundation, Villa il Cedro, with her family. “La croisée des chemins” is her fourth exhibition.
