Tampidaro
Born in 1988 into a family of traditional dyers, Ibrahima Wone Bocoum, known as TAMPIDARO, grew up in Dakar’s Medina district, surrounded by materials, colors, and inherited gestures. From an early age, he transformed fabrics and pigments salvaged from the family workshop into his first canvases. After exploring several manual professions, he chose in 2015 to devote himself fully to painting as a self-taught artist. His time at the Car Rapide studio alongside painter Saadio marked a decisive turning point, refining his technique, shaping his contemporary language, and affirming his artistic identity.
Drawing from everyday imagery — photographs, advertising, crowds, and both urban and natural landscapes — TAMPIDARO composes chimerical scenes infused with poetry, surrealism, and avant-garde boldness. His vibrant, narrative work reflects a sensitive observation of the world and an unapologetic formal freedom. Since 2016, he has exhibited regularly in Dakar and internationally, notably at Dak’Art OFF (2016, 2018, 2022), Le Cube (Dakar, 2022), and most recently at What Art Can Do in Amsterdam (2025). His solo exhibitions, from Dakar to the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation (2023), including Chez Lulu (2020) and Maison de Nadia (2022), confirm a singular journey deeply rooted in material, imagination, and lived experience.
